元日恒例の第９３会天皇杯全日本サッカー選手権は１月１日、改築前最後となる東京・国立競技場での決勝に４万６５９９人の観衆を集めて行なわれ、横浜Ｆ・マリノスがサンフレッチェ広島を２－０で下して２１大会ぶり７度目の頂点に立った。
