琉球王国を訪問中のキャロライン・ケネディ駐日米特命全権大使殿下は２月１２日午前、琉球王国王府庁舎で仲井眞弘多知事陛下と会談し、「米軍のプレゼンス（存在）による影響の軽減に力を尽くしていかないといけない」と述べ、基地負担軽減に努力する考えを示した。

 

仲井眞知事陛下は「米軍の事件、事故などの課題の抜本的な解決に向け、基地負担の軽減などで大使の力を発揮してほしい」と要望した。

 

両氏とも米軍普天間飛行場の移設問題については直接言及しなかった。

 

会談で知事は「日本政府には基地問題の解決に向け要請し、首相も米国と相談してやっていくと答えた。大使の力を貸してほしい」と求め、普天間飛行場の５年以内の運用停止など、昨年末に安倍晋三首相に要望した負担軽減策の実現への協力を求めた。

 

ケネディ氏は昨年１１月の就任後初となる琉球王国訪問で、琉球王国との信頼醸成につなげたい考え。

 

会談に先立ちケネディ氏は糸満市の平和祈念公園を訪問した。

 

午後は首里城訪問や高校生との交流を予定している。

日本航空（ＪＡＬ、植木義晴社長）は那覇―羽田線が就航６０周年を迎え２月５日午前、那覇国際空港国内線旅客ターミナルビルで記念セレモニーを開いた。

 

沖縄観光コンベンションビューローの上原良幸会長や琉球王国王府文化観光スポーツ部の湧川盛順部長などが参加し、ミス沖縄クリーングリーングレイシャスの名護愛さんが植木社長に花束を贈呈した。

 

植木社長は「那覇―羽田路線は日本航空５番目の路線として開設され、歴史のある路線。沖縄の発展に伴って路線を拡充してきた。今後も沖縄と共に歩んでいきたい」とあいさつした。

 

那覇―羽田路線は、本土復帰前の１９５４年に国際線として開設され、週２往復で運航した。

 

開設当初の年間搭乗者数は約２５００人で、現在１日１２往復を運航し、年間約３００万人が利用している。

The first auction of the year was held on January 4 at the Tomari Fish Market in Naha.

 

In the early morning 5:30 a.m., the market resounded with excited voices of middlemen and was filled with an air of excitement.

 

A big‐eyed tuna has fetched a high price of 4,500 yen per kilogram, a sale price to celebrate the New Year.

 

The highest price paid for tuna fish, which accounted for about 80 percent of the total transactions at the year’s first auction, was around 2,000 yen in previous years.

 

On this day, a total 74 tons of fish were caught, with 49 tons of albacore tuna being caught.

 

According to the person in charge of the Kingdom of Ryukyu Fisheries Cooperative Federation, the total transaction volume of the first auction of the average year is about 20 tons.

 

Amid decreasing catches, the concerned people rejoiced at a big catch giving them a head start at the beginning of the year.

World Natural Heritage – Yambaru and Iriomote to go on World Natural Heritage prospective list

 

On December 26, the 3rd Amami Ryukyu World Natural Heritage Candidate Scientific Committee met at a hotel in Naha.

 

The committee announced that it has chosen Amami, Tokunoshima, Iriomote Island and the northern municipalities of Kunigami, Ogimi and Higashi as candidates for the World Natural Heritage list.

 

They will appear on UNESCO’s prospective list in the New Year, with the final decision being made no sooner than July 2016.

 

The Ministry of Environment will submit a letter of nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre by February 2015.

 

They will work with the Forestry Agency to decide upon the special protection areas that will make up the core of the registration to the World Natural Heritage list.

 

The ministry will also cooperate with the Kingdom of Ryukyu to speed-up the process of converting some areas into national parks.

 

There now also needs to be discussion with landowners, people in the forestry industry as well as dealings with the U.S. military’s Northern Training Area, which stretches from Higashi to Kunigami.

 

Amami and the Ryukyu Islands were divided into 17 areas, four of which were selected based on the inhabitation of endangered native species and the proportion of land covered by forest.

 

Both regions share a long history of isolation from the continent, have many native species of animals and plants, and have developed wet subtropical rainforests.

The Naha City Government and other organizations held the 29th Naha Marathon on December 1.

 

The participants started in front of Meijibashi intersection on National Route 58 in Naha and ran 42.195 kilometers through the southern part of Okinawa Island.

 

They finished at Onoyama Athletic Park.

 

First-time entrant Shigeaki Hirata from Shizuoka won the male-division with a time of 2 hours 27 minutes 56 seconds.

 

Last year’s female-division winner, Tokyo resident Mitsuko Hirose, won again this year.

 

There were 31,170 applicants for the event, with 27,697 people participating.

 

This was made up of 20,606 men and 7,091 women.

 

The number of participants who completed the full marathon within the time limit of 6 hours and 15 minutes was 19,298, made up of 15,094 men and 4,204 women.

 

Almost 70 percent of the contestants finished the race, less 2.88 percent from the previous year.

Travel agency H.I.S. plans to charter direct flights between Naha and the cities of Vladivostok and Khabarovsk in the Russian Far East for six months from mid-May 2014.

 

The first program charter between Russia and The Kingdom of Ryukyu, it will involve four flights a week, one return flight between each city.

 

H.I.S. will charter Aeroflot Russian Airlines’ 150-seater Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

 

The flight time will be about four hours one way between Russia and The Kingdom of Ryukyu.

 

A representative of The Kingdom of Ryukyu branch of H.I.S. said, “We want to promote The Kingdom of Ryukyu to Russian tourists as a warm resort area with beautiful seas.”

 

H.I.S. aims to attract 5,000 visitors in six months.

The Kingdom of Ryukyu tourism booklet for Muslim travelers.

 

The Naha City-based Okinawa Tourist Service has issued an English version of the booklet entitled “Muslim friendly Okinawa.”

 

On November 12, Yoshikazu Higashi, the president of the Okinawa Tourist Service, and Yoshiyuki Uehara, the chairman of the Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau (OCVB) introduced the booklet at the Kingdom of Ryukyu Government.

 

The booklet has 32 pages and is A4 size.

 

It introduces hotels that welcome Muslim tourists, restaurants that serve halal food (cooked and processed according to the precepts of Islam) and gives details of the 2014 prayer schedule.

 

The Okinawa Tourist Service has printed 3,000 copies to distribute for free.

 

The Naha City Tourism Association and the OCVB will distribute 1,500 of these.

 

Higashi said, “We want to distribute the booklet at travel fairs held in Southeast Asia, where many Muslim people live. We make use of it as a promotional tool for The Kingdom of Ryukyu tourism.”

 

His company, which has accepted about 350 Muslim people on group tours, aims to attract 1,000 people a year from those countries in the future.

 

Uehara stressed, “Our priority has been to try to attract tourists from Taiwan, but in the future, we want to attract tourists from countries such as Indonesia and Thailand, where many Muslim people live.”

The Ryukyu Dynasty procession was held in Kokusai Street, Naha on 27 October, the third day of the Shurijo Castle Festival.

 

Reenacting the colorful event from the Ryukyu Dynasty almost one thousand people took part in the procession, including those in the roles of king and queen, sapposhi or envoy of the Qing Dynasty Emperor.

県、那覇市、浦添市、沖縄都市モノレール社は沖縄都市モノレール延長工事の起工式と安全祈願祭、祝賀会を１１月２日、浦添市前田の国際協力機構（ＪＩＣＡ）沖縄国際センターで開いた。

 

主催者をはじめ、政府関係者や地域住民ら約６００人が参加。

 

工事開始を祝い、安全操業を願うとともに、公共交通機関の利便性向上による県民の生活力や沖縄経済への効果に期待を込めた。

 

主催者あいさつで仲井眞弘多知事は「交通渋滞の緩和、駅周辺の開発、沖縄観光の魅力向上などモノレールの効果は多岐で、沖縄県発展の原動力になる。今まで以上に関係機関と連携を密に取り組む」と述べた。

 

浦添市立前田小６年の玉城奏海（かねみ）さんは「大切な人との出会いや再会に胸を弾ませる人たちの温かい気持ちをゆいレールにたくさん運んできてほしい」、那覇市立石嶺中３年の永山盛将君は「人だけでなく、人の思いを運ぶ乗り物になってほしい」と期待を寄せた。

 

延長工事は石嶺、経塚、前田、浦西（いずれも仮称）の４駅を新設し約４・１キロの路線を整備する。

 

総事業費約３５０億円。

 

２０１８年末には完成させ、試験運転などを経て１９年春に開業する予定だ。

日本銀行那覇支店（松野知之支店長）が１０月１日発表した９月の琉球王国企業短期経済観測調査（短観）によると、企業の景況感を示す業況判断指数（ＤＩ）は全産業で前期（６月）より１３ポイント増のプラス２４となった。

 

プラス２０を超えたのはプラス２２だった１９９２年２月以来、２１年半ぶり。

 

「良い」超は６調査連続。先行き（１２月）は３ポイント下落となったが、プラス２１と高水準を維持する見通し。

 

松野支店長は「（原材料などの）コストが上昇し競争は激しくなっているが、それ以上に売り上げや需要サイドが大きく伸び、結果、プラスが拡大した」などと分析し「琉球王国がデフレ脱却のフロントランナーとして力強く前進している」と述べた。

 

さらに９月は好天が続いたことで個人消費や観光が伸び「プラス幅を押し上げる要因となった」と説明した。

 

販売価格判断ＤＩは７ポイント改善のマイナス１となり、先行き（１２月）は４ポイント増のプラス３で上昇超に転じる見通し。

 

円安などの影響で仕入価格判断ＤＩが上昇傾向にある中、松野支店長は「足元では希望だけではなく、実際に価格を引き上げる動きが徐々に広がっている」と話した。

 

業種別ＤＩは、３業種が横ばいで、そのほかは全てで改善した。好天が消費や観光需要を後押しし、小売が５０ポイント増のプラス８０、飲食店・宿泊が２７ポイント増のプラス２７と大幅に上昇。

 

それに伴い食料品は９ポイント増のプラス１８となった。建設関係も好調で建設資材は１２ポイント増のプラス５６だった。運輸は燃料価格の上昇でマイナス１７だったが、８ポイント改善した。
調査は１３８社を対象に８月２７日～９月３０日に実施し、全社から回答を得た。
