L'Espagnol Rafael Nadal s'est emparé de la 2e place du classement ATP publié lundi aux dépens du Britannique Andy Murray grâce à son 9e succès de la saison dimanche lors du tournoi Masters 1000 de Cincinnati.

 

Vainqueur de l'Américain John Isner, Nadal a remporté le 26e Masters 1000 de sa carrière -le 5e cette année- huit jours après celui de Montréal.

 

Il pointe désormais à 2120 points (10.980 contre 8860) du N.1 mondial, le Serbe Novak Djokovic, dont il lorgne la place.

 

De son côté, Isner connait la plus forte progression de la semaine passant du 22e au 14e rang.

 

En revanche, Roger Federer continue sa dégringolade au classement.

 

Défait en quarts de finale à Cincinnati par Nadal, le Suisse recule de la 5e à la 7e place.

 

Le Tchèque Thomas Berdych et l'Argentin Juan Martin Del Potro en profitent pour monter chacun d'un cran, respectivement 5e et 6e.

 

Chez les Français, Richard Gasquet, sorti du Top 10 la semaine dernière (9e à 11e), retrouve exactement sa place malgré son revers au 2e tour face à Isner à Cincinnati.

 

Quant à Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, absent des cours cette semaine, il conserve sa 8e place.

 

Pour sa part, Gilles Simon occupe toujours le 17e rang.
