"Je m'en souviendrai longtemps" de ce match a déclaré Novak Djokovic, vainqueur mercredi de Rafael Nadal en quarts de finale à Roland-Garros, mais devra vite "passer à autre chose" car Andy Murray l'attend en demies vendredi.

 

Q: Que représente ce succès pour vous ?

 

R: "J'ai conscience que c'est une grande victoire. Je m'en souviendrai longtemps. Jouer contre +Rafa+ à Roland-Garros est toujours spécial. Il n'avait perdu qu'un match ici. Je vais la savourer ce soir mais demain est un autre jour. Il va falloir vite passer à autre chose et se focaliser sur les demi-finales. C'était seulement les quarts et je suis venu ici pour remporter le titre."

 

Q: Cela vous surprend-il d'avoir gagné en trois sets ?

 

R: "J'espérais le faire... Quand j'ai mené 5 à 1 (dans le 3e set), je ne voulais pas trop me relâcher et je ne voulais pas n’imaginer que j'avais quasiment gagné. Nadal est capable de renverser la vapeur. Il l'a montré au premier set alors qu'il était menée 4 à 0. J'ai fait preuve de solidité et je ne lui ai pas laissé beaucoup d'espace pour qu'il prenne l'ascendant sur les échanges du fond de court. Je voulais prendre l'avantage dès les premiers coups de raquette."

 

Q: Quelle a été votre stratégie pour le battre ?

 

R: "Le but était de ne pas lui permettre de dicter les points. J'ai essayé de varier un maximum mes coups avec des amorties, des balles hautes, rapides et en montant au filet. Il n'a pas tellement bien servi dans les deuxième et troisième sets. Il a commis des erreurs un peu inhabituelles sur son coup droit. Mais ce sont des choses qui arrive quand on ne sent pas très à l'aise sur le court. J'ai frappé fort sur son coup droit pour le faire sortir du court, car j'ai noté qu'il était un peu en difficulté sur son jeu de jambes."

 

Q: Que pensez-vous du niveau d'Andy Murray, votre prochain adversaire ?

 

R: "Il a progressé sur terre battue. Cela ne fait aucun doute. J'ai regardé ses matches à Madrid et à Rome. Il joue un super tennis. Il bouge mieux, sert très bien et a toujours un excellent touché de balle. C'est l'un des meilleurs défenseurs du circuit. C'est aussi quelqu'un d'extrêmement doué et doté d'un mental de guerrier. Et il a beaucoup d'expérience des grands rendez-vous."

 

Q: Nadal estime que vous vivez les meilleurs moments de votre carrière. Partagez-vous ce point de vue ?

 

R: "Probablement. Tout est arrivé au même moment sur le plan sportif et personnel. Je suis très satisfait de ce qui se passe dans ma vie sur et en-dehors du court. Cela a une influence sur mes résultats, je pense."

 

Q: Cette défaite de Nadal contre vous, est-ce un tournant dans sa carrière ?

 

R: "On verra bien. Il n'a pas évolué à son meilleur niveau cette saison sur terre battue, par rapport aux résultats obtenus lors des dix dernières années. Mais on reste des humains. C'est normal de passer par des moments comme ceux-là. Si toutefois vous avez des doutes sur son niveau, jetez un coup d'oeil à ce qu'il a accompli durant sa carrière. Il est capable de revenir. Il l'avait fait en 2013 après sept mois sans jouer et avait alors réalisé l'une des meilleures saisons de sa carrière. Cette défaite n'est pas un gros problème. Il a 29 ans et a encore de belles années devant lui. Je suis persuadé qu'il va redevenir encore très dur à battre."
