England thrash New Zealand in 1st One Day International

England beat New Zealand by a record 210 runs to win the first one-day international match at Edgbaston on Tuesday and go 1-0 up in the five-match series.

 

It was England biggest victory, in terms of runs, in all One Day International (ODI) cricket beating the 202-run margin they achieved against India at Lord during the 1975 World Cup.

 

England total of 408 for nine, their highest in all ODI cricket, was built on the back of hundreds by Joe Root (104) and Jos Buttler (129).

 

Buttler stand of 177 with Adil Rashid (69) was a new seventh-wicket record in all one-day internationals.

 

England dismissed New Zealand for 198 with more than 18 overs to spare, fast bowler Steven Finn and leg-spinner Adil Rashid taking four wickets apiece.

 

The series continues at The Oval on Friday.
