Si Rafal Majka a de nouveau fait étalage de ses talents de grimpeur, la course des cadors a livré encore une belle bataille où seul Peraud a pu suivre Nibali.

Mais assurément, il sera son second en montagne.

Thibaut Pinot a coincé, Alejandro Valverde a vacillé, et même sérieusement dans ce Pla d'Adet, bien mal nommé tant sa pente est impressionnante, notamment dans son premier tiers.

 

Alors, bien sûr, en haut les écarts n'étaient finalement pas si énormes que cela.

 

Et les positions restent inchangées.

 

Avec un Nibali toujours aussi intouchable, un Valverde toujours accroché à sa deuxième place, un Pinot toujours cumulard entre la troisième place et le maillot blanc et un Peraud toujours à l'affût.

Car, si les positions restaient inchangées ce soir à Hautacam, ce serait bien le Toulousain qui serait en position de force avant le contre-la-montre Bergerac-Périgueux.

« Pour le podium à Paris, je ne vais pas faire de plan sur la comète. Je peux aussi avoir un retour de manivelle demain (aujourd'hui). »

On verra tout à l'heure s'il pourra encore emboîter le pas à l'Italien dans le Tourmalet, mais plus sûrement sur les pentes d'Hautacam puisqu'il est écrit que ce Tour, plein de suspense, se jouera en grande partie sur cette ultime montée.

 

« Pour l'instant on est à égalité, résume Thibaut Pinot. Avec le Tourmalet et Hautacam, peut-être les deux cols les plus durs du Tour, il y a encore de quoi faire. Cela promet une belle bagarre. Valverde était un peu à la rupture aujourd'hui (hier) mais rien n'est fait, et c'est super pour le suspense. »

Jean-Christophe Peraud ne s'est pas fait que des amis hier.

Non pas auprès de la télévision, à qui il a accepté de donner ses premières réactions.

 

Mais plutôt du côté de l'autre caste des journalistes.

 

Celle qui reste parquée un peu plus loin, après la ligne.

 

Qu'il impose à ceux-ci un 400 m en descente, passe encore.

 

Qu'il saute les barrières – bravant l'interdiction des forces de l'ordre – pour filer, comme un voleur, ça, ça n'a pas plu.

 

Mais alors vraiment pas du tout.

 

Il est vrai qu'être à huit secondes du podium confère quelques obligations y compris à l'un des coureurs les plus posés du peloton.

 

Pas simple d'être un champion.

 

Pas simple non plus d'être, en pareille circonstance, chargée des relations avec la presse…

 

Celle d'Ag2r a eu droit à une petite soufflante, bien malgré elle… Alors, plutôt que ce coup de gueule, on préférera retenir le coup de panache d'un Romain Bardet, à la dérive la veille et plein de culot hier.

" J'ai fait mon suiveur "

 

« C'est parti sur les chapeaux de roue, avec une échappée et derrière les Katusha qui ont imprimé un rythme de fou. Dans le Portillon, j'ai voulu y aller quand c'est sorti mais j'ai vite senti que si je me mettais dans le rouge, j'allais exploser. Donc, j'ai fait mon suiveur, presque jusqu'au Pla d'Adet. Je l'ai monté à un bon rythme, mais pas assez bien sûr pour être devant. Demain (aujourd'hui), il y a le Tourmalet à passer, un col mythique mais dans l'ensemble, c'est presque fini. Il n'y a plus qu'Hautacam. Sur cette étape, ça peut être intéressant d'être devant, même si j'ai vraiment envie d'être à la hauteur de mon maillot tricolore sur le chrono, samedi. A voir. Pour finir, des nouvelles d'Hollenstein, mon coéquipier. Il a passé la nuit à l'hôpital, avec un tuyau pour aspirer l'air car il avait un poumon décollé. Il aurait pu repartir ce matin (hier) mais c'était prendre des risques inutiles. Ça reste du sport. »
