Don’t simply believe all online postings, says Rosmah

KUALA LUMPUR: People must not simply believe everything they read but check the facts first before spreading stories, said Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

The Prime Minister’s wife urged people to take in objective and rational information.

She stressed the importance of knowing how to filter right from wrong, especially when it came to educating the younger generation.

“The things you read on websites such as Facebook are sometimes lies. So before you believe, do your own investigation.

By the time it reaches the 20th person, the story can be completely different,” she said at the 2013 Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants Association’s (Puspanita) conference yesterday.

As Puspanita’s patron, she noted that the association had gone through a transformation and now played a more holistic role by focusing on education, female leadership as well as skills improvement.

She urged members to act proactively in organising seminars and training programmes and collaborating with others to ensure their achievements were up to par.

“I also hope a mentor-mentee programme can be introduced. This is expected to reduce the generation gap between experienced and new civil servants,” she said.

Rosmah also recommended for more day care centres to be established in workplaces.

She said there were currently 90 day care centres prepared by Government agencies despite the existence of over 400 agencies nationwide.

“Since the day care centres are in the workplace, this will also reduce transportation costs and save time for those who need to travel back and forth to drop their children off.

If workers are supported by good amenities, they can give their best to their jobs.”

Puspanita president Puan Sri Rohani Abdullah said a strategic transformation plan had been created with the aim of helping women in the civil service to contribute and reach their full potential.
