Microsoft s'apprête à rajeunir Windows 8

 

La future version pourrait faire son apparition au second semestre.

 

Les tablettes Surface et le système d'exploitation Windows 8 de Microsoft ont beau fleurir dans la plupart des grandes séries télé américaines depuis octobre dernier - telles que NCIS, Hawaii 5-0 ou Elementary -, les ventes restent décevantes.

 

Windows 8, le programme clé de Microsoft qui était censé convenir aussi bien aux utilisateurs de PC qu'à ceux disposant de tablettes, vient certes de franchir le seuil des 100 millions de licences écoulées en six mois, selon Tami Reller, directrice financière et marketing de la division Windows.

 

Mais ces chiffres demeurent inférieurs aux attentes du groupe.

 

Les fabricants de PC avaient pourtant mis beaucoup d'espoirs sur le nouveau logiciel afin d'endiguer la crise de leur marché.

 

L'effet escompté n'a pas joué: malgré le nouveau produit vedette de Microsoft, le marché mondial des ventes de PC a affiché un repli de 13,9 % au premier trimestre de 2013, soit sa plus forte baisse depuis 1994, selon le cabinet d'études IDC.

 

«Le marché des PC est pénalisé par celui des tablettes, même si les tablettes ne se substituent pas aux PC. Nous pensons qu'il y a un effet de cannibalisation à cause des dépenses des particuliers qui, en achetant des tablettes et des smartphones, retardent le renouvellement de leurs PC», explique Jay Chou, analyste du cabinet d'études IDC.

 

Des remarques  prises en compte

 

Pour revenir dans la course, Microsoft va devoir tenir compte des remarques de ses clients et proposer un système d'exploitation sans faille pour tous les types de tablettes.

 

La nouvelle version de Windows 8 devra être améliorée pour inciter les fabricants à proposer de petites tablettes, concurrentes du format de l'iPad mini d'Apple, la Nexus 7 de ASUS ou la Galaxy Tab de Samsung.

 

Certains experts avaient souligné, dès l'arrivée de Windows 8, que sa prise en main n'était pas immédiate et que la rupture était trop importante avec la présentation des applications proposée auparavant par Microsoft.

 

À en croire le Financial Times, Tim Cook, le patron d'Apple, comparait le dernier système d'exploitation de Microsoft au mariage d'un «grille-pain et d'un réfrigérateur»!

 

La future version passera donc par une amélioration du système d'exploitation, qui répond «au nom de code de Windows Blue et qui sera disponible plus tard dans l'année, construit sur notre vision de rupture apportée par Windows 8 pour proposer la prochaine génération de tablettes et de PC», assure Tami Reller.

 

De nombreux utilisateurs espèrent retrouver le menu «démarrer» qui permettait d'accéder en un clic à toutes les applications.

 

Mais les détails sur les évolutions ne sont pas encore annoncés.

 

Ils devraient être présentés fin juin, lors d'une conférence du groupe américain.

 

Revenir dans la course est également un pari important pour Steve Ballmer, le PDG de Microsoft. Il avait remercié le patron de la division Windows, Steve Sinofsky, juste avant le lancement de ce logiciel phare.
